Detailed Syllabus

Unit I: Number Systems (6 Marks)

1. Real Numbers

  • Fundamental Theorem of Arithmetic: Finding HCF and LCM using prime factorization.
  • Proving irrationality of numbers like √2, √3, √5.
  • Real-life applications of these concepts.

Unit II: Algebra (20 Marks)

2. Polynomials

  • Finding zeros of polynomials (especially quadratic).
  • Relationship between zeros and coefficients (e.g., sum and product of roots).
  • Graphical and algebraic methods.

3. Pair of Linear Equations in Two Variables

  • Graphical solution: Consistent or inconsistent systems.
  • Algebraic methods: Substitution and Elimination.
  • Solving real-life situational problems.

4. Quadratic Equations

  • Standard form: ax² + bx + c = 0 (a ≠ 0).
  • Solving by factorization and quadratic formula.
  • Nature of roots using discriminant (D = b² - 4ac).
  • Real-life word problems.

5. Arithmetic Progressions (AP)

  • Understanding AP and its terms.
  • nth term formula: aₙ = a + (n-1)d.
  • Sum of n terms: Sₙ = n/2 [2a + (n-1)d].
  • Applications in daily life (e.g., savings, steps).

Unit III: Coordinate Geometry (6 Marks)

  • Distance Formula: √[(x₂ - x₁)² + (y₂ - y₁)²].
  • Section Formula (internal division): [(mx₂ + nx₁)/(m+n), (my₂ + ny₁)/(m+n)].
  • Solving problems using these formulas.

Unit IV: Geometry (15 Marks)

7. Triangles

  • Basic Proportionality Theorem (BPT): Prove and apply.
  • Converse of BPT (state only).
  • Similarity criteria: AA, SSS, SAS (state only).
  • Solving problems on similar triangles.

8. Circles

  • Tangent properties:
    • Tangent is perpendicular to radius at the point of contact (prove).
    • Tangents from an external point are equal (prove).
  • Problem-solving with tangents.

Unit V: Trigonometry (12 Marks)

9. Introduction to Trigonometry

  • Trigonometric ratios (sin, cos, tan) for acute angles.
  • Values at 0°, 30°, 45°, 60°, 90°.
  • Relationships between ratios (e.g., tan θ = sin θ / cos θ).

10. Trigonometric Identities

  • Prove and use: sin²A + cos²A = 1 (simple identities only).
  • Solving problems with identities.

11. Heights and Distances

  • Angle of elevation and depression.
  • Simple problems using 30°, 45°, 60° angles (max 2 right triangles).

Unit VI: Mensuration (10 Marks)

13. Surface Areas and Volumes

  • Combinations of two solids: cubes, cuboids, spheres, hemispheres, cylinders, cones.

Unit VII: Statistics and Probability (11 Marks)

  • Mean, median, mode for grouped data (no bimodal cases).
  • Methods for mean: Direct, Assumed Mean, Step Deviation.
  • Algebraic methods for median and mode.

15. Probability

  • Classical definition: P(E) = Favorable outcomes / Total outcomes.
  • Simple probability problems based on real-life events.
